My wife, Jen, is the greatest blessing in my life.
Another blessing is the love and support I receive throughout my challenge with prostate cancer from my family and my friends, three of whom can be seen in this picture.
I have known these friends for almost 40 years. From left to right are John, me (Anthony), Craig, and Mark.
These guys continue to support me now during my cancer journey, and they also supported me after my devastating motorcycle accident many years ago.
In fact, my close friend Mark was my roommate at the time of my accident, and his friendship has remained very meaningful to me.
Living with aggressive Stage IV metastatic prostate cancer has taught me that some days are so-so, while others are incredibly difficult.
I’ve learned that I have to keep pushing through the hardest moments to reach the moments that truly matter. My time with my three friends was one of those moments.
For a few special hours, I wasn’t focused on the physical and emotional challenges of living with cancer while on ADT (Androgen Deprivation Therapy). Instead, I found myself laughing, reminiscing, and reflecting on almost four decades of friendship and countless wonderful memories.
This reminded me that even in the midst of hardship, I still have a lot to be grateful for.
I was especially touched that my friend Mark travelled all the way from Calgary, Alberta, to spend some time with me during this challenging chapter of my life. His kindness, together with the unwavering support of John and Craig, means a great deal to me.
To my friends: thank you for reminding me that hope, friendship, and love are some of the most powerful medicines we have.
I am very grateful for each of you. 🙏
Anthony
