I took the first photo of St. Michael’s Hospital in 1999—two years after my serious motorcycle accident and the year I began volunteering in the Trauma and Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit.
The hospital looks dramatically different today, with the addition of the Peter Gilgan Patient Care Tower, the expanded Emergency Department, and ongoing redevelopment.
The final photo shows me standing on the hospital’s helipad, where Ornge helicopters transport critically injured trauma patients.
AFYI – After my accident in 1997, I was airlifted to the SickKids’ helipad because
St. Michael’s helipad had not yet been completed.
St. Michael’s Hospital gave me the gift of a “Second Life and a Second Chance,” and it has remained a very important part of my life ever since. 🙏
