Awareness saves lives. Compassion changes lives.

Awareness saves lives. Compassion changes lives.

After I sustained a Traumatic Brain injury (TBI), people would often say to me, “You look fine.”

It is important that people are aware that a Brain Injury frequently results in symptoms that cannot be seen from the outside.

I am now coping with a diagnosis of Stage 4, metastatic Prostate cancer.

Two different diagnoses with their own journey.  However, both share the reality that life can change in an instant.

Living with Prostate Cancer, I again experience many symptoms that cannot be seen from the outside. Both Prostate cancer and Traumatic brain injury (TBI) affect millions of people and families around the world.

Prostate cancer is often silent in its early stages because early-stage Prostate tumours usually grow slowly and don’t cause any pain.  A TBI can happen suddenly as a result of accidents, falls or some other trauma.  Both a TBI and Prostate cancer can have a negative impact on a person’s mental, physical and emotional health, their quality of life, energy, and their relationships.

Most people with stage 1 Prostate cancer don’t show any symptoms.  Prostate cancer causes symptoms at an advanced stage. (Ref: Mayo Clinic).  This is why Prostate cancer screening is very important.

Any challenge to one’s health is difficult.

It helps a lot when others show support, care and compassion for people navigating difficult situations.

Thank you.
